In the race for the Republican nomination, the Not-Romney’s have all had similar stories. A poll comes out showing that they are inexplicably neck-and-neck with Romney after being virtually unheard of to that point. Suddenly the media focuses on the new frontrunner, with people asking how this happened. Then the new-frontrunner starts flaming out, and a new poll gets released with another person who’s been under the RADAR suddenly in first or second.

Wouldn’t this be a great idea: The Romney camp gets their hand on, and jiggers, some poll data to show someone jump out from nowhere. Suddenly all the media attention makes that person actually jump up in the polls, and then they flame out. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

I don’t think this is the case (see Hanlon’s Razor), but it’d be a heck of a strategy.

The Astros moving to the AL means that each league will have 15 teams. That means that there will be interleague play nearly every day of the season. I don’t have a good reason to dislike this, but I do. I feel like interleague play was a special thing. Having it be a constant noise in the background cheapens the intrigue of two teams that normally don’t play each other playing each other.

In my mind, Japanese Cuisine is typified by having a few ingredients, but maximizing the contrast between them: contrast of flavor, texture, and even temperature.

Take buffalo wings. Properly made buffalo wings.

You have a wonderful crispy skin contrasted with moist and beautifully soft chicken meat. The sauce is spicy and midlly sour, but is contrasted with the sweetness of the butter. Finally, you dip the piping hot wing in a cool bluecheese dipping sauce, which is both colder than the wing, and plays against the heat of the sauce.

When you look at a buffalo wing, though, you think, “It’s amazing how much I love such a simple thing.”
